In the latest release of IT Management Suite (ITMS) 8.8, Symantec has introduced a significant enhancement to the Copy File / Copy Folder Task by enabling the use of tokens. While this may seem like a relatively minor update, it addresses a critical need for many users, including myself.
One of my favorite utilities, Loginw.exe, will no longer be supported starting from ITMS 8.7.3. Although you can still copy over the Loginw.exe utility from ITMS 8.7.2 and use it in ITMS 8.7.3 or ITMS 8.8, it has been designated as a „legacy utility.“ Development for this tool ceased long ago, and it remains a remnant of Deployment Solution 6.9 or Ghost Solution Suite 3.3. Loginw.exe is still in use when running Ghost Solution Suite up to version 3.3 RU12.
The primary reason we requested this feature enhancement is that the previous Copy File / Copy Folder Task lacked the flexibility needed to copy drivers for specific hardware models. To work around this limitation, we relied on Loginw.exe and created separate Run Script Tasks to copy the necessary drivers to the devices.
With the newly tokenized Copy File / Copy Folder Task, we now have the flexibility to achieve this directly within the built-in task, eliminating the need for the legacy Loginw.exe utility and additional scripting. This improvement streamlines our processes and enhances our ability to manage diverse hardware environments more efficiently.
